A hotel of character and star-class, set in an emerald teascape 6,800 feet above sea level, only six degrees from the Equator. In the mountain range, which gave the world Pure Ceylon Tea, the hotel began as a factory built in the days of the British Raj. It has been converted so that much of the original style and machinery remains, a reminder of the past in perfect blend with innovations of the present.
This former Tea factory has been restored into a lovely Hotel..we are in the midst of a working plantation that has many thousand acres and a big work force of mainly women that make about $4.00 per day picking 2 leaves and a bud of tea leaves. This high elevation tea (nearly 7,000 feet)is mostly exported. These photos are from the beautiful grounds around the former estate managers home....it is a lovely sight to see the mists roll in and the cooler weather guarantees a restful sleep.
Brugmansia are large shrubs or small trees, reaching heights of 3–11 m, with tan, slightly rough bark.
The leaves are alternate, generally large, 10–30 cm long and 4–18 cm broad, with an entire or coarsely toothed margin, and are covered with fine hairs.
The name Angel's Trumpet refers to the large, very dramatic, pendulous trumpet-shaped flowers, 14–50 cm to 20 inches long and 10–35 cm across at the wide end. They are white, yellow, pink, orange or red, and have a delicate, attractive scent with light, lemony overtones, most noticeable in early evening. Flowers may be single or double.
